As part of the debate series \u201cCities and Sea,\u201d a discussion titled \u201cThe Sea: A Global Common Good\u201d will be held at the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to UNESCO, more than 40% of the world\u2019s population lives within 100 km of the coast, and approximately 11% of the global population resides in urban coastal areas, which are exposed to climate risks. These regions face challenges such as rising sea levels, extreme heat events, unsustainable territories, and prolonged droughts. These factors are compounded by human activities such as mass tourism and the loss of coastal biodiversity, making coastal urban areas highly vulnerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this reason, marine conservationist Tundi Agardy, founder of Sound Seas, and J\u00falia L\u00f3pez Ventura, European director of C40<\/a> Cities, will participate in a talk to reflect on the importance of preserving coastal regions on a global scale. The conversation will be moderated by Valenti Sallar\u00e9s, director of the Institut de Ci\u00e8ncies del Mar<\/a> (ICM-CSIC), who coordinates UNESCO\u2019s Ocean Cities Network program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
